Family Values and The Evolution

September 25,2015

The Brady Bunch was first premiered on ABC in 1969, and you could say that family values since that time has changed drastically. Now if one was to compare that television show to a more modernized show such as Modern Family which was aired in 2009,you would easily be able to notice how the family values have really changed.

Now as for these shows changing over the years it's not necessarily the worst thing in the world. As the world changes around us the people change and adjust to their enviorment. Throughout the evolution of TV shows, the portrayal of teenagers and their actions towards their families as well as family values ,were becoming more clear to the viewers. Family values are a huge aspect of the expansion of these shows and how they would interact with eachother, these changes in family values not only affected the TV companies and the producers but many of the viewers as well. The actions of these teenagers on TV, depicted that it was okay for teenagers in real life to be doing the same things as people on TV .This not only affects interactions with family but it also affects work, school, frienships, and many more relationships.

Family values have been changed into something that society didn't seem ready for. Respect is a word that has recently become a little bit fuzzy for the younger generations. TV shows have influenced this though, as we can observe by watching some of these modernized shows we are able to see that apparently it is okay in society to scream and yell at your parents with no consequences or very little ones. As seen in the show Modern Family we see that the oldest daughter yells a lot at her mother and has no punishments. This is also because as the generations change parenting changes as well and things become more acceptable.

The Brady Bunch was more of a show based on family of respect. The parents may have been divorced but they had full respect and control of their kids. These days a broken family tends to be disorganized and hard to control as you can compare to Modern Family. Since Jay , who is a grandfather and a dad to kids but is also divorced we see that he struggles to have full control over his step son and sometimes doesn't always wat to be tough on him. Parents tend to care and and tend to not want to lose their child based on how the discipline them. That is why today the descipline of many families lack control. Much different from times before.
