Many Americans (including myself) have watched the new beloved show I Am Cait, a new show showing the difficulties of Caitlyn Jenner (Formerly Bruce) and the Transgender community as a whole, struggle with when coming out as a transgender person and learning how to become the gender they identify with permanently. Essentially, the show about Caitlyn finding herself after so many years of feeling different. For the LGBTQ community, the fact that someone so famous has joined the community and brought lots of issues to surface in society is wonderful. What’s great about the show I Am Cait is that it’s very different from the reality show Keeping up with the Kardashians where the rest of Cait’s family is aired on TV. Instead of relying on fake, petty drama to keep ratings up like the rest of the Kardashians do, Caitlyn made her show into more of a documentary about the struggles in her life as a transgender. The show sends a message. This has resulted in lower ratings than it has with her Kardashian-Jenner daughters. Luckily for Caitlyn, there has been confirmation from multiple magazines and the show’s producer that I am Cait will run for a second season.
The weird thing about this whole assignment is that when I was looking at information about I am Cait, the first few sources I clicked on, talked about how great Cait’s show was. After those it went to an article about how Cait’s show had low ratings and why it might be for the best. When looking to report more on her fatal car crash, very little was released on the matter including an article with the video report about the crash taken down. So you can only imagine how much I had to dig to talk about her courage award scandal. Since neither the courage award scandal or the car crash was talked about on TV, it really makes you wonder how much money it takes for the Jenner-Kardashians have to spend to pay the press off, And how much the press doesn’t want us to know about certain scandals for rating purposes.
In the second paragraph, I thought you had some good examples to back up your argument. For example, when you said "that she went too far as to cancel her interview with Diane Sawyer", shows how she did it for publicity by winning the ESPN award and making her own show.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was a very good idea for a blog post. The whole situation is surrounded by a lot of controversy and I had no prior knowledge that she could be facing jail time, AND asked for the ESPY award. I think that Caitlyn may have gotten too much praise for what she did because I feel as though she kind of made everything happen with her money so easily, while other people are struggling to be accepted and to transition into who they really are. I know Caitlyn did struggle at points, but there are many people out there who wish they could have done what she did and cannot. I believe she she can be a good role model to a certain extent, but I do not think people should aspire to be exactly like her.
