Bill Cosby Story
9/18/15
Childhood
stars and shows usually leave great memories in your mind. But lately, the ones
who act in the shows that we grew up loving tend to have a negative
image/perspective in each of our minds. Bill Cosby, a father figure, was also
known as Americas’ dad at one point. He was a lot of African American males
role model. Bill has let a lot of people down in the black community for the
actions he made in the past, and now finally seeing daylight. After many allegations
have been put out on Bill Cosby for sexually assaulting women in his early
stages of his career the public has finally put the allegations to rest by
agreeing with the women who have been assaulted.
There has
been plenty of evidence that shows a pattern in which Bill Cosby took young
naïve women and brought upon drugs into there relationship, a lot of the times
without the women knowing. Most of the women who were drugged by Bill were
drugged on Quaaludes. Quaaludes are a prescription pill which helps put people
to sleep. In the mid 1960’s Quaaludes were prescribed to housewives who had
trouble controlling their nerves and sleeping. Once the drug became popular,
many decided to put it into their alcoholic beverages. Mixing it with alcohol
will give you a drunken, sleepy high. What many did not know except for doctors
was that taking a heavy dosage of the drug could lead to respiratory arrest,
delirium, kidney or liver damage, coma and death. The drug became such a bad
thing that in the 1970s it was labeled as a Schedule 2 controlled substance.
Bill
Cosby after being accused by more than 30 women had finally admitted to getting
the prescription pills to give to women to have sex with from released
documents. Documents dating back to 2005 from a civil lawsuit filed by a woman
named Andrea Constand who was 1 of the 12 women who had called out Bill for
sexual assault. Although Bill Cosby and his lawyer tended to never answer any
questions relating to the rape charges, the public perspective on him was
becoming more and more negative. While Bill and his lawyers said to give out
prescriptions of Quaaludes to numerous women he also never admitted to actually
drugging them. Many of the women with the allegations said that the only reason
they were even in the presents of Bill was to start off the careers they were
desperately looking for. They assumed that Bills television friendly image
would benefit them in a way off him going out of his way to contact many of his
friends in Hollywood. That alone sounds promising to many off us but how naïve
could these women be when having a slight clue of how much a sick, disgusting
guy he actually was. It seemed like most of these women had no sense of common
sense. Think of it from this perspective it is not shaming the many women that
were assaulted but it just raises questions on the demeanor of these women and
the thought process as well. Joan Tarshis who accused Bill of raping her at the
age of 19 said she was afraid to talk about it in the past because she was
afraid of Bill’s power. At first she felt Bills power because when she and many
others first came out accusing Bill they were all called liars. She was quoted
saying “I think the message has to be that fame and wealth and power cannot
exempt you from justice”. Once more of the truth came out the people who
supported Bill started falling off. Most of the support was coming from the
Black community because the image that the Cosby show left on us was exactly
what every black family in America was striving for.
Although
Bill is 77 years old he fought all the documents accused of him claiming it
would violate his and others privacy from embarrassment. Because of the statue
of limitations has passed, it has prevented prosecution. Bill cannot be sent to
prison due to the fact that there’s no evidence, no burdens of proof, no
cross-examinations, and no standards of admissibility. Although Bill wont be in
a jail cell any time soon the court of public opinion will always see him as a
disgusting person and his image is forever ruined.
