Look Back At It
“Body image is the way you see yourself and imagine
how you look. Having a positive body image means that, most of
the time, you see yourself accurately, you feel comfortable in your body,
and you feel good about the way you look (Positive and Negative Body Image | Improving Self
Esteem.")
Positive body image
has always been hard to come by in America because like we have learned in
class, beauty ideals are close to perfect. An example of what a perfect wife
should look like 30 or 40 years ago most would say represented a woman that was
ghostly thin. In todays society we want to be independent and self-motivated with
a body that is much like Beyoncé’s. Women are taking a stand for themselves; we
are starting to accept our bodies for what they are. Are we doing the right
thing accepting bodies that aren’t thin? Should the media and our society
finally just accept women in all different shapes and sizes, and appreciate big
butt and legs? Luckily not just regular personnel believe this to be true, but
famous people as well.
In this video right at the end, Kim states just how happy
she is with her pregnant looking body. She says she is even curvier now that
she had an added 30 pounds on her. Is the new look for idealistic women a curvy
one with a nice weight to her? I think so! We all know the Kardashians are
known for their big butts, and I think they are damn proud about it. Young
women and even older women base their idea of what they should look like off of
media clips like this and whatever is shown in magazines and social media
sites. Positively the look for a women is becoming rounder per say and men are
pushing more towards liking a women with some shape to her and hopefully a big
butt.
Becoming more physically fit has been a huge task that women
in 2015 are taking on, and companies like Nike provide clothing and slogans to
push them to have a fit and motivated attitude. If you ask me I would say that
the world is becoming a better place with body ideals becoming more reasonable
and the acceptance of a more athletic women figure is really shining through. Similarly,
the media has begun to produce songs and ads about big butts like wildfire. All
we hear now is how we need a big butt to be the best. Although this is kind of
shitty way to motivate some to like their body, eventually after you have
worked out and seen what your body particularly your butt can do you are
amazed. You feel like a super woman. Self motivated as all hell, and powerful. Read
this ad below from Nike, not only do all of you probably love what her body
looks like, but you may feel like damn I like my body the way it is too (Leftfoot, Lucas).

Another great example of how our body image for women is
changing even in the media is Meghan Trainer’s song “All About That Bass”. She
claims over and over again in her song how even her mother had told her not to
worry about her size, and eventually someone will love what you have to offer.
And I completely agree with her, if women just accept what they have been given
and learn to love their own bodies, self-image and what you portray to others
becomes something incredibly positive.

“I see the magazine workin’ that Photoshop
We know that shit ain’t real, come on now, make it stop
If you got beauty, beauty, just raise ‘em up
‘Cause every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the
top (Meghan Trainor - All About
That Bass.")
Here are some more powerful lyrics from All About That Base,
and as you can see Meghan is not fooled by what we sometimes see in magazines.
She is saying what these women look like isn’t their real image, in fact just a
photo shopped picture of a new fake woman perfected with an altering software
program. My point being is that if all of these famous songwriters, and icons
are ok with being curvy and bootylishious, it is only a matter of short time
where this is what everyone is striving to be exactly that. To solidify how
awesome it is to be all about the bass, watch her music video, its incredible!

I really like the tone of this piece. I was clear the the author is something that most women strive to be: comfortable and proud of her own body. I really like the message and agree fully that all women should feel comfortable in their bodies. This piece effectively uses popular figures to encourage all women to accept their bodies and promote positive body image.
