Taylor Swift Deserves More Credit

Taylor Swift- you either love her or you hate her, or so it seems. Either way, I’m sure you have caught yourself singing along to one of her hit songs on the radio. I personally think she is incredibly talented and an amazing person. You often hear about celebrities going off the deep end with the more success they achieve, but never Taylor Swift. She has always stayed so pure and wholesome. Although, The media is usually mocking her for her poor dance moves at award shows or making a rude remark on how many boyfriends’ she’s had, or how she won’t put her music on Spotify. Taylor Swift is often criticized in the media, but she deserves more credit than she often gets for her generosity, her self-respect, and being a huge role model to young girls.

Celebrities like Oprah and Angelina Jolie are known for being extremely giving and generous, but Taylor Swift’s acts of kindness typically go unnoticed. To start, she is extremely giving when it comes to her fans. Last Christmas Taylor sought out fans that followed her on Tumblr and sent them gifts she hand-wrapped with a personal note. She is also often seen standing up for people that are being cyber bullied.  She is also donating all of the proceeds from one of her newest songs, “Welcome to New York”, to New York Cities’ Public Schools ("Your Guide To Taylor Swift's Most Generous Acts”).  On top of that, she has continuously donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Nashville and the Country Music Hall of Fame.  She says, “I would not be the same kind of person without Nashville,” - always remembering where she comes from ("Taylor Swift's Generosity Lands Her State Honor”). I feel as though celebrities can be generous with their money, but with Taylor she really goes out of her way to get to know her fans and be more personal.

For someone as famous as Taylor Swift she has really stayed true to herself and has a ton of self-respect. Throughout the years Taylor Swift has grown tremendous popularity, but through it all she has managed to stay classy. You never see her in a scandalous outfit, maybe a crop top and high-waisted shorts, but never anything too crazy. She understands who listens to her music, including little girls, and really stays appropriate when it comes to this. Her music, not to mention she writes her herself, is always clean and never has swears. I don’t think you can say this about a lot of artists. She really caters to her audience and makes it fitting to younger girls, but also relatable and appealing to an older crowd.  On top of everything, she really has not caused negative media attention for a dumb mistake and overall presents herself highly.  

If you ask any little girl who they look up to, I can bet a majority would say Taylor Swift. Over the years she has really proved herself and h as become a household name.  She works extremely hard and has had tremendous success. She is someone who really emphasizes to love yourself and your differences. She is all about being able to fool around and being able to laugh at yourself. She has such a positive outlook on life and is genuinely a good person.  She never has a bad word to say about anyone, even after the incident with Kanye West in 2009.  

If you look in a tabloid magazine you’re almost bound to see an article or paparazzi photo of Taylor Swift. But the real question is how many of those are negative? Yeah, the media will find the littlest flaws to focus on, but has Taylor Swift really done anything outrageous? Like drive drunk? Or get caught up with drugs? Never. And I really don’t believe this will happen. It is about time we see a normal celebrity be a positive role model. Yes, Taylor Swift is given praise, but I still believe people don’t realize everything she really does or recognize her as more than a musician.
